Import Course Content

Move course content from one course to another on the same Moodle server

This process will only work if the courses are on the same Moodle server. (i.e. moodle.kellogg.edu to moodle.kellogg.edu OR moodledev.kellogg.edu to moodledev.kellogg.edu) 

Step 1: Login to Moodle

  1. Click on New course you want to import content into

Step 2: At the top right of the course 

  1. Click on the Gear icon 
  2. Select Import

Step 3: Find the course you want to import the data (content) from. You will only see the courses you are enrolled in as an instructor or a non-editing instructor. 

  1. Once you Select the course
  2. At the bottom click Continue

Step 4: Here you will have two separate options. 

  1. Jump to final step- this will import everything into the course, sometimes this is easier to delete what you do not want out of the new course. 
    1. If you chose Jump to final step - you are almost finished, you will see a Continue button when the import is complete. When you press continue it will take you to your course. 
       
  2. Next - this will allow you to pick and choose individual items to move to the new course. You will be able to select as few as one item to the whole course and everything in-between.

If you chose Jump to final step - you are almost finished, you will see a Continue button when the import is complete. When you press continue it will take you to your course. You are Done

 

Step 6:If you chose "Next" please continue to follow the steps below. 

  1. Depending on how much of the content you wish to import it may be easier and quicker to select None at the top of the screen, this will uncheck all the boxes and allow you to choose just the individual items. Helpful hint, you must select have a check in the "Topic" to select items.

Step 7: Individually selecting item(s)

  1.  You will need to select the Topic
  2. Select the item(s) you wish to import

Step 8: Once you have selected all the items you wish to import

  1. At the bottom of the page, click on Next

Step 9: Confirmation and review of the items you chose to import to your course. Items you have selected will have a green check, the items being skipped on the import will have a red x next to it. 

  1. Scroll to the very bottom and click on Perform import

 

Step 10: When finished 

  1. Click on Continue to be go to your course and review/move the items you just imported.
